History blended with recreation...
This site was once the mountain home of George Alfred Townsend, a Civil War journalist. It features a unique collection of buildings and structures that Townsend designed and constructed, some of which have been restored. A major attraction is a large stone monument dedicated to war correspondents. The Appalachian Trail traverses this day-use park and passes the monument base. Shelter is available to accommodate up to 100 for gatherings.
Reservations must be made 1 Day(s) ahead of arrival and can be made up to 365 Day(s) in advance.
