Big Run State Park is situated on the northern tip of the Savage River Reservoir; this park offers rustic camping opportunities with unimproved campsites and a youth group camping area. With a boat launch, it is a popular base camp for outdoor enthusiasts who are intent on fishing, camping, hiking or hunting. Big Run is the trailhead for a 6-mile hiking trail, known as Monroe Run.

Directions to Big Run State Park: From Interstate 68, take Exit 22. Follow Chestnut Ridge Road south 2 miles to the end, and turn left on New Germany Road. Follow New Germany Road south 5 miles, and make a left on Big Run Road. Follow Big Run Road east 5 miles to the end. The park is located at the intersection of Big Run Road and Savage River Road. Campsites - numbered 60 through 90 - are located at the intersection and along Big Run Road.
Directions to the Ranger Station at New Germany State Park: The Ranger Station for Big Run State Park is located about 8 miles away at New Germany State Park. From Big Run Road, turn right onto New Germany Road (north/east). Go about 4 miles to New Germany State Park. The park will be on the right, and the Ranger Station will be on the left, located at 349 Headquarters Lane, Grantsville, Maryland. The Ranger Station is open daily, from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm.
